Imaginative Bird Feeder

Breed:2 Afghan hounds, and a rat terrier/bassenji mix
The bird feeder is an innovative product. It is a squirrel deterrent, however we have mourning doves, towees, and jays that can't get the feed because they're too heavy, and it took a long time for the sparrows, Oregon junkos, chickadees and linnets to figure out how to stand on the u-shaped feeding bar. The bar seems not big enough in diameter and it's hard for the bigger sparrows to balance while feeding. They rock up and down. I would also suggest a bottom saucer to catch the grain which falls to the ground where squirrels can get it. The saucer would support the smaller birds as they feed, a position they seem to like. We have attached an attractive branch to the bottom of the feeder where the birds perch just before landing on the bars.
The feeder is attractive and much more suitable hanging in the garden than the usual plastic tube feeder most people have.

Poorly constructed

(My dogs have nothing to do with this bird feeder) I bought two of these bird feeders last year from Tractor Supply. I threw one away within a week. Within two days both had the two springs (two on each) come loose thereby rendering the entire feeder useless.
It is not easy to thread the springs back up to the holes. I kept one feeder but did not rehang it. This year, I re-threaded the springs, tightened them with needle nose pliers and rehung. It lasted about two weeks until the metal piece that holds the whole thing up came loose. I got it back in place but it is subject to failure at any time. One spring came loose again earlier this week despite all my tightening. (When a squirrel jumps on it it jars the feeder and the spring jumps out of its hole). I just refilled it and discovered seed pouring out of one of the holes. Somehow the plastic piece that fits in the hole and has a hood to keep the seed in has come out. Cannot find it anywhere. Hung it back up VERY CAREFULLY but expect the seed to pour out when the first bird pecks in the hole. If I don't find the plastic piece soon, the whole thing goes in the garbage.
I warned Walmart and Tractor Supply last year that it was lousy and not to carry it.

Smart squrrils

Within one hour the squrrils had figured out how to get the seeds out by pushing up and chewing on the plastic holes, bending up the metal leafs. but after a little modification and adjustments I improved upon this design, I have videos of the squirrls getting to the seeds before my modifications and starving afterwords.
